The Baquerizo family began in Ecuador when Captain Sir Francisco Antonio de Baquerizo y González arrive to Guayaquil from Spain in the XVIII century. At arrival Captain Baquerizo register documents to prove his nobility origin at Municipal Council and was record at Book # 17, page # 67, dated May 5 / 1761. He became Guayaquil´s City Mayor in the year of 1764.
The son of Captain Sir Francisco Antonio de Baquerizo y González, Sir Sebastián Baquerizo Noboa, receive the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Spanish army and also serve as Guayaquil´s City Mayor.
The son of Lieutenant Colonel Sir Sebastián Baquerizo Noboa, Sir José Baquerizo Coto, did not participate in public service ; but his brother in law, Sir Diego Noboa y Arteta became Ecuadorian President in the year of 1851.
The son of Sir José Baquerizo Coto, José María Baquerizo Noboa, died in 1870 while he was serving as Ecuadorian Minister of Economy.
The son of José María Baquerizo Noboa, Enrique Baquerizo Moreno, receive the rank of Colonel in the Ecuadorian army in the year of 1884; was member of the Senate the first time in 1920 and the second time in 1932; Guayaquil´s City Mayor in 1936; and Governor for Guayas´s Province from 1938 until 1944. His brother Alfredo Baquerizo Moreno was Vice-president of Ecuador in 1903-06; President of Senate in 1912-16 and President of Ecuador in 1916-1920. His brother Rodolfo Baquerizo Moreno was Guayaquil´s City Mayor in 1918; Governor for Guayas´s Province in the year of 1933 and Secretary of State in 1934.
The brothers Baquerizo Moreno were also relatives of Gabriel García Moreno; who was President of Ecuador for the first time in 1861; for second time in 1869 and for third time in 1875. At the year of 1876, Pope Pío IX order to built a statue to honor this ecuadorian´s president for his defense of the catholic religion.
The son of Enrique Baquerizo Moreno, Enrique Baquerizo Fernandez de la Puente, did not participate in public service and only dedicate to his business, but his brother in law, Amalio Puga Bustamante, serve as Guayaquil´s City Mayor in 1957.
The son of Enrique Baquerizo Fernandez de la Puente, Leonel Baquerizo Puga, serves as General Police Intendance for Guayas Province; and President of Guayas Commission for Transit between 1960 and 1970.
The sons of Leonel Baquerizo Puga, Leonel Enrique y Xavier Baquerizo Luque established the law firm “Baquerizo Luque & Associates”.
